Woman arrested, RM12,000 in fake Siti Khadijah telekung seized

KUALA TERENGGANU: State Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry seized RM12,000 worth of imitation Siti Khadijah telekung (Muslim prayer outfit) at a house in Kampung Bukit Besar, Jalan Pasir Panjang yesterday.

Nine enforcement officers and a representative from Siti Khadijah Apparel Sdn Bhd, raided the premises at 2.15pm after receiving a complaint from the company in Kuala Terengganu that fake goods bearing the Siti Khadijah brand name were being sold at various night markets here.

Its director Azlan Abdul Samat said the fake telekung were being sold at between RM100 and RM120 a piece while the price for an original Siti Khadijah were worth between RM150 and RM250.

"We detained a 25-year-old Malaysian woman, who is operating the business as a distributor for the fake item in the state. She claimed to have a relative in Vietnam who supplied the goods to her," he said.

He said all the 100 pieces of fake telekung have been confiscated. The woman was taken to the head office and her statement was recorded to assist investigation.

Azlan said the offence for selling counterfeit goods falls under Section 8(2)(c) of the Trade Description Act 2011 and those convicted could face a RM10,000 fine for each of fake item sold, or imprisonment of up to three years, or both.

He said the seizure of the fake telekung was the first case involving Siti Khadijah's brand made by the ministry in Terengganu.
