Transvestite sex worker fined for offering services to cop in Jalan Ipoh

KUALA LUMPUR: A 23-year-old transvestite sex worker was fined RM1,500 in default of three months’ imprisonment by the magistrate’s court here for offering sexual services to a policeman on Monday.

S. Mugilan, clad in a yellow ‘patiala’ (traditional Punjabi top for women) and jeans pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him before magistrate Mahyuddin Mohmed Som here today.

He was charged with soliciting for the purpose of prostitution by saying “Hi, sir. You want sex, pay RM60 and follow me to the hotel,” to constable M. G. Arun in front of a clinic at Jalan Ipoh at about 10.45pm on June 5.

The offence falls under Section 377B of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum one year’s jail, or fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin urged that apt punishment be handed down to the accused.

However, Mugilan, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lenient sentence as this was his first offence.

Meanwhile, a group of people outside the courtroom, believed to be Mugilan’s friends, scrambled to collect money for the fine.
