Bogus cop nabbed by real policemen in Likas

KOTA KINABALU: A bogus policeman who had fleeced a man of RM100 was promptly caught after his victim positively identified him to the police.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said the victim, a businessman, was walking back to his house in Likas at 11pm on Tuesday when he was stopped by a car.

"A man from the car introduced himself as a policeman and demanded RM100 from the victim.

"The 39-year-old victim recognised the driver and the other passenger as they were not far from him," he said, adding that the incident took place at Masjid Jamek in Likas which dimly lit.

The businessman lodged a police report after the incident.

Police arrested the 32-year-old suspect at a petrol station in Kampung Likas.

He tested positive for drugs and has a criminal record.

Police also seized a pickup truck, car keys, a sling bag, a wallet, RM70 cash, pictures, a security guard card and two MyKad.

The case is being investigated under Section 170 for masquerading as a civil servant.

M. Chandra said police are now looking for his suspected accomplice, identified as Isen Hussin, 40.
