KUANTAN: A suspected drug dealer’s car ended up in Sungai Kuantan after a high speed chase with police here early today.
However, the 41-year-old suspect who was alone managed to escape from the sinking car in the incident which near the Kuantan Fisheries Department jetty.
The 1am incident unfolded after the police here were alerted by their counterparts from Kemaman, Terengganu on the suspect.
Despite the efforts to flag him down at a road block, the suspect managed to evade the Policemen.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh said two police patrol vehicles soon spotted the Proton Persona, resulting in a 20 minute high-speed chase in the state capital.
"The driver refused to stop the vehicle and drove towards the fisheries department jetty before he lost control of the car and it landed into the river.
"The Fire and Rescue Department were called to lift the vehicle out of the river and we discovered drugs believed to be heroin inside the car," he said.
He said police have gathered details about the driver and have launched a manhunt to track him.
