Man with marital problems leaps to death from apartment

SANDAKAN: A depressed man leapt to his death from the fourth floor of the Taman Mesra apartment building here, this morning.

In the incident, a neighbour saw the 21-year-old foreigner tying a piece of cloth around his eyes before running and jumping from the balcony.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said police rushed to the scene after being alerted and found a body on the ground floor.

“Based on investigations, it is learnt that the man had just arrived in Sandakan from Labuan to solve his marital problems.

“He had contacted his wife at 11am but the calls went unanswered. It is learnt that the man had then become depressed and did not want to speak to anyone,” he said.

Mohd Azhar said a neighbour, who witnessed the suicide, claimed to have seen the man covering his eyes with a cloth before leaping from the balcony at 2.10pm.

“The man died instantly. The body has been taken to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for post-mortem and the case is classified as sudden death,” he said.
