MELAKA: A bus ticket salesman was charged at the sessions court here today with sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy in the toilet of a bus terminal here last August.
Muhammad Amin Abd Kadir, 19, pleaded not guilty to the charge read to him before judge Norma Ismail.
Muhammad Amin is alleged to have committed physical sexual assault on the boy in a men’s restroom at Zon B of Melaka Sentral at about 4pm.
The charge was under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for 20 years' jail and whipping, if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Shazreen Nadia Saaban did not offer bail for the accused, but left it to the court’s discretion, besides imposing added conditions.
Counsel Sheikh Ikhzan Sheikh Salleh, who represented the accused, sought for a low bail amount, as his client is suffering from mental issues.
Norma then set bail at RM15,000 and fixed mention for Nov 6.
She also ordered the accused to be sent to the Permai Hospital in Johor for a month to undergo mental observation.
Norma also warned the accused to stay away from the victim.
