Klang man nabbed for allegedly beating mother-in-law to death

SHAH ALAM: A 43-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly beating his mother-in-law to death.

The 70-year-old victim, who is believed to have been beaten by the suspect several times, succumbed to injuries at 9.40am on Friday while receiving treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang.

She had been rushed to the hospital on Oct 28 after her health took a turn for the worse.

A post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was a head injury due to blunt force trauma.

Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said the woman’s son-in-law was detained in Klang on Friday night.

"We obtained a seven-day remand order against the suspect from the court (on Saturday). The suspect will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," said Shamsul.

The beatings were believed to have occurred at their house in Teluk Pulai in Klang from May to October this year.

The matter came to light after the victim's stepdaughter, 36, filed a police report against her husband, who is a prawn noodles seller.

Shamsul said the stepdaughter, an insurance agent, was initially afraid to reveal the matter to the rest of her family, as her husband had threatened to kill her.

He added that her husband was under the impression that his mother-in-law was urging her stepdaughter to divorce him.
