Partly-decomposed body of unidentified man found floating near Pulau Kapas

MARANG: The body of a man clad only in dark-coloured track bottoms was found floating at sea near Pulau Kapas today.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Suhaimi Ali said the body was spotted by a local fisherman about noon.

He said the fisherman lodged a report about the incident at the district police headquarters at noon and a team of Marine policemen were despatched to retrieve it.

However, the same fisherman had also contacted the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). The agency diverted one of its boats which was currently on patrol nearby.

A state MMEA spokesman said the crew of the boat retrieved the body, which was partly decomposed, and brought it back to the agency’s jetty in Kuala Terengganu.

He said the body was then handed over to Marang police.

It was learnt that the body was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for post-mortem examination.
