Police recover RM106,900 out of RM461,660 from security van robbery, arrest 2 men

SHAH ALAM: Police have recovered RM106,900 out of RM461,660 from a security service armoured van robbery incident in front of a bank in Sri Serdang on Nov 24.

The cash was seized following the arrest of two men in Negeri Sembilan, one of whom works in Armour Security as a technical staff, just days after the heist.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the duo were arrested on Nov 28 and 29 by a team of investigators from the Serdang district headquarters.

“Four days after the heist, investigators arrested a 26-year-old man who is a technical staff of Armour Security at the company’s office in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan at about 5pm. He has no criminal record.

“Another arrest was made the next day at 4am. The 25-year-old man owns a grocery shop in Felda Serting 5, Bandar Seri Jempol in Negeri Sembilan.

“Investigators who searched the premises found a box filled with RM106,900 of various denominations hidden in one of the rooms.

“These two men have been remanded for eight days until Dec 6,” said Mazlan at the Selangor police contingent headquarters today.

The robbery took place when two men, who wore full-faced helmets, opened the side door of a cash in transit (CIT) vehicle and grabbed three sacks before fleeing on a motorcycle at about 10.30am.

Mazlan added they have launched a manhunt to track down two more accomplices, one who has been identified as the company’s technical staff.

The two who are at large are believed to be in possession of the balance of cash contained in three sacks that was stolen from the CIT vehicle.

The duo are Mohd Shamrul Hairry Shamsul Kahar, 30, of Bandar Springhill, Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan and Mohamad Azhar Mohamad Rawawi, 26, of Felda Tembangau 1, Kemayan in Pahang.

Police have pointed out Mohamad Azhar as the technical staff of Armour Security.

Mazlan said Shamsul and Azhar have gone into hiding following the earlier arrests.

Mazlan revealed that they believe that the robbery could be an inside job where all of the men had conspired to carry out the heist.

He added that ongoing investigations are also looking at the possibility if any of the men were involved in robbery in the past.

Four Armour Security staff, who were arrested on the day of the heist and subsequently remanded until Nov 30, have been released on bail, added Mazlan.
