(Updated) Girl shot dead with shotgun, teenage uncle held

ALOR STAR: A teenager was held after his eight-year-old niece was shot dead with a shotgun at a house in Kampung Empa in Pokok Sena near here.

The girl identified as Puteri Intan Sharini Mohd Hishamudin was watching television when she was shot at about 11am.

Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rozi Jidin said initial investigations reveal that the girl was shot.

Her 15-year-old uncle has been arrested for investigations into the case, he said.

The shotgun belonged to their 80-year-old great-grandfather.

Rozi said Puteri sustained injuries to her left cheek and died at the scene.

Meanwhile Puteri's father, Mohd Hishamudin Azmi, 34, said he came to know about the incident after being informed by Puteri’s mother, Nur Suriati Wan Masri, 26.

“Puteri is under the care of her grandparents after I became separated from her mother.

“I was working in Jitra when Suriati called me. I rushed to the scene and found my daughter was already dead,” he said when met.

He said the last time he spoke to Puteri was last week when she called asking him when to buy her school uniforms.

Hishamuddin added that he had planned to take her to buy the uniforms this Friday.

He said Puteri is the eldest of four siblings and a smart student when she studied at SK Penghulu Darus, Wang Tepus.
