Man found dead in car parked at Tanjung Aru beach

KOTA KINABALU: A man was found dead inside a car at the Tanjung Aru Beach area here on Friday.

The 42-year-old man, was found in a Hyundai Accent parked in the bushes at Beach 2 around 5.27pm.

“Policemen found the victim unconscious. Smoke was emanating from the car at the time.

“They attempted to open the car door but failed as it was locked from the inside.

“The Fire and Rescue team came to assist in breaking the mirror on left side of the passenger seat.

"Upon inspection, the smoke was found to have originated from charcoal which was burning on a barbecue grill inside the vehicle," said district police chief Assistant Commissioner M Chandra.

The man is believed to have died from smoke inhalation. No injuries or bruises were found on the man's body.

The case has been classified as sudden death. The body was sent to Queen Elizabeth 1 Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
