Civil servant and bank officer arrested over death threat against veterinary officers

KUCHING: A female civil servant has been nabbed for allegedly making a death threat against the State Veterinary Services Department (VSD) on a Facebook page.

The 28-year-old was the second to be arrested today for threatening the VSD personnel involved in the mass removal of stray dogs to control the spread of rabies.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the woman had allegedly incited followers of the Facebook to kill the department personnel.

"She surrendered herself at Kota Sentosa police station after learning that the police have identified her and are looking for her to facilitate investigations," he said.

Earlier today, a bank officer was arrested for allegedly incited followers of the Facebook to set up road blocks and release the captured strays.

Police picked up the 34-year-old man from his house in Stampin here at 10.50am.

He had allegedly suggested using extreme measures to prevent the operation by the department to capture the strays.

The five-day operation which began on Wednesday to remove stray dogs off the street as a battle against the spread of rabies.

It was organised by the state Local Government Ministry with VSD and police.

VSD on Thursday had a lodged a police report against several commenters on Facebook who appeared to have incited violence against those involved in the mass operation to remove strays.

To date, 27 locations had been declared as rabies-infected in Sarawak, whereas Serian division has 20 areas, followed by four areas here and one each in Samarahan, Sri Aman and Sarikei divisions.
