MACC arrests third suspect in match-fixing probe in Seremban

SEREMBAN: A 47-year-old businesswoman with a Datuk title has become the third individual detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with alleged football match-fixing.

The woman, who funds an amateur football club, was arrested today at the state MACC headquarters at 2.30pm.

According to a source, the woman is believed to have paid the opposing team, through her football club’s manager, to ensure that her team would win in the People’s Football League (LBR) match in November last year.

“The woman’s team won big in the match, raising suspicions which led to a report being lodged with MACC,” the source said.

The first person to be arrested was a 40-year-old football coach. He was remanded for five days beginning Jan 5. Two days later, the commission obtained a five-day remand order against a 38-year-old team manager.

MACC Investigation Department director Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani confirmed the arrest of businesswoman.

He said she was expected to be brought to the Special Remand Court here tomorrow.
