Man with 27 arrest warrants finally detained in Penang

BALIK PULAU: A man who has been escaping from being caught by the police despite 27 arrest warrants for traffic offences over the past 15 years was finally detained on Saturday.

Southwest district police chief Superintendent A. Anbalagan said that there were 15 arrest warrants for the 31-year-old man in the southwest district alone, with the remaining 12 warrants for cases in the northeast district of the island.

Most of the arrest warrants were for failing to produce his driving licence and other traffic offences.

“Police have been searching for him for the past 15 years and we finally caught him at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah on Saturday about 9.30pm during patrol.

“Urine test also found that the man was under drug influence when we detained him,” he said in a statement today.

The man is expected to be taken to Balik Pulau court tomorrow over the 15 arrest warrants, and will be later handed over to the northeast district police for action on his other 12 arrest warrants.
