KUALA LUMPUR: Controversial rapper, Namewee, who was arrested yesterday while having his statement recorded over a music video entitled 'Like a Dog' has been remanded for four days.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the singer whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, 34 was remanded for four days starting today to facilitate investigations into reports against a Chinese New Year video he produced.
The remand process was carried out at the Dang Wangi police headquarters this morning.
Namewee was being investigated under Section 298 A of the Penal Code for sparking racial tension and disharmony and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service.
It was reported that Namewee was arrested at 2.45pm after several police reports were lodged against him over a music video that he produced for Chinese New Year.
On Feb 18, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said police had opened up investigation papers on Namewee with regard to the video clip.
