KUALA LUMPUR: Two policemen were charged at the Sessions Court today with committing gang robbery.
Constable Abdul Nasir Abdul Mukir, 25, and Lance Corporal Mohd Faisal Yahya, 28, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Mohd Ghazali Mohamad Taib.
The duo, who were attached to the Jinjang Centralised Lock-up Centre and Dang Wangi police headquarters respectively, were alleged to have robbed Bangladeshi labourers Moshiar Rahman, 42, and Alam, 37, of cash RM8,000 and two handphones worth RM8,500.
They allegedly committed the offence at a pedestrian bridge at the Pasar Seni LRT station in Dang Wangi here at 6.50pm on Nov 14 last year.
Deputy public prosecutor Nor Akmal Farhan Aziz did not offer bail as the offence was non-bailable.
"However, upon court's descretion to grant bail, I propose a sum of RM10,000 for each accused," he said.
In pleading for a lower bail, counsel P. Suthes, who represented both accused, said they were then sole breadwinners of their family.
"The first accused (Nasir) has to support his seven siblings who are still studying and he is getting married this year, while the second accused who is a father of two is also taking care of his sick mother," she said pleading for RM4,000 bail.
Ghazali set bail at RM8,000 with one surety each and ordered the duo to report to the police station each week until disposal of the case.
He fixed March 23 for mention.
