176kg of marijuana seized at Rawang toll plaza; two arrested [NSTTV]

GOMBAK: Police seized 176kg of marijuana worth an estimated RM528,000 from two cars at the Rawang toll plaza on Tuesday morning.

The drivers of the two vehicles – aged 23 and 35 – were arrested after their BMW and Perodua MyVi were flagged down and inspected at 3am.

The two men, who were travelling to the Klang Valley from the north, were intercepted with the assistance of the Selangor and Kedah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Departments (NCID); and the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting).

The men had been tailed to the toll by the Kedah NCID team after receiving a tip-off.

“The duo was arrested there by Sting and Selangor NCID, who were waiting at the scene,” Federal police NCID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh told a press conference at the Gombak district police headquarters today.

Mohmad said an inspection uncovered 176 slabs of marijuana inside five bags kept in the BMW’s boot.

The drugs, smuggled from the northern border through “rat lanes,” is believed to be sufficient to supply 351,000 drug addicts in the Klang Valley.

The two suspects will be remanded for seven days until Mar 26 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Mohmad added that the seizure is one of the biggest drug hauls of 2018, and that thus far this year, police have confiscated one-tonne of marijuana valued at RM22 million.
