Two brothers arrested for allegedly raping sister

PAPAR: Two brothers have been arrested by police on suspicion of having raped their 17-year-old younger sister.

Papar district police chief Deputy Supt Ladamah Sulaiman said both suspects were arrested at their home at 2.30pm following a report that a rape incident had occurred at the siblings' residence in Papar on June 6.

"The incident happened at 2am on Wednesday at their home while the victim was asleep in the living room.

"The victim was approached by both suspects aged 26 and 24. One of the suspects covered the victim's mouth while the other took a pair of scissors to cut off her pants and underwear.

"A police report was made by the victim's older sister yesterday and police made an arrest as well as confiscated various items pertaining to the case including the victim's clothes and the scissors used by the suspect," he said.

Ladamah said police were made to understand that the two suspects had allegedly been molesting the victim since she was 12.

He however said no police reports were made prior to the latest rape incident.

"Based on information received by the police, previously, the victim had been molested three times and raped twice by the suspects.

"Both suspects were believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

"Urine test done on both suspects found that the 26-year-old suspect tested positive for methamphetamine," Ladamah said at a press conference held at the Papar district police headquarters, here, today.

"Both suspects are in police custody for further action and the case is being investigated under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of 30 years and a minimum 10 strokes of the rotan, if found guilty," he said.

"The victim also informed the police that before her sister lodged the report, the victim had complained to her mother but was brushed off because the mother felt a police report would be an embarassment," he added.
