Drug addict jumps off double-storey house to avoid capture

RANAU: A drug addict leapt from the first floor of his house after the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) raided his home at Kampung Kinalipudan here on Sunday.

However, the 42-year-old man's attempt to evade capture was in vain as several AADK personnel were standing by to break his fall.

Ranau AADK chief Hazrie Attin said the raid, dubbed Ops Cegah, was conducted at 10pm on Saturday with the help of five AADK personnel.

He said the suspect tested positive for syabu, adding that another individual was arrested in Kampung Paka 2.

"A 30-year-old man was apprehended in the second arrest. He denied taking drugs at first but urine tests showed he was positive for drugs.

"The suspect admitted that he didn't want his wife and mother-in-law to find out about his addiction. Checks showed he was arrested by Kudat AADK for the same offence," Hazrie said when contacted today.

He said both suspects will be remanded for 14 days starting yesterday (Monday) and Papar AADK detention centre.

"Both individuals will be investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983."

He said members of the public with information on drug abuse cases in Ranau can contact AADK at 088-877 866 or file a report at the nearest AADK office.
