Driver in viral little 'daredevils' on moving car arrested

JOHOR BARU: In less than 24 hours, the driver of the car caught in photos and a video with two children sitting and doing ‘Superman’ stunt on top of it has been arrested.

Acting on the reports from the public and the video that went viral, Seri Alam police chief Superintendent Ismail Dollah said the police conducted through investigation to identify the driver.

At 7.45 last night, a team of police personnel and officers from Seri Alam police headquarters went to a house in Taman Nusa Damai in Pasir Gudang and arrested a 49-year-old man believed to be the driver of the car.

“We also seized the Toyota Vios that was driven in the incident. Three children aged between 10 and 12 have also given their statements to facilitate investigation.

“We found that one of the children is the driver’s son,” he said in a statement today.

The man, who works as a school van driver, has been remanded for two days to assist in investigation under Section 336 of the Penal Code for acting rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others.

Meanwhile, Johor Road Transport Department director Razali wagiman said investigation found that the other two boys are the children of the man’s neighbour.

“When RTD and police officers went to his house, we found the vehicle involved there. The man confessed to have driven the car around 3.30pm yesterday and let the children, including his son, to sit at the back of the vehicle.

“He also confessed to have run a red light and claimed he only did it because he wanted to fulfil his son’s wish,” said Razali, adding that two summonses have been issued against the man for driving recklessly and also for running a red light.

Yesterday, New Straits Times reported that pictures of two children on a moving car at Taman Scientex, Pasir Gudang have gone viral on social media, and Netizens were mortified.
