UK man robbed of RM2,000 in front of KL home by knife-wielding man

KUALA LUMPUR: A man from the United Kingdom was robbed of RM2,000 by a knife-wielding man who ambushed him after he alighted from a Grab car in front of his house at Taman United here, on Friday night.

In the 8pm incident, the 64-year-old Briton with permanent residence status had just paid for his e-hailing ride and was headed to the entrance of his home when the thief suddenly accosted him with a knife.

It is learnt that the robber fished the man’s wallet from his pocket and hopped onto a nearby motorcycle to make a getaway – but the victim managed to push the thief off his vehicle. The robber then escaped on foot in the direction of Jalan Sepakat.

“The victim lost his bank cards and RM2,000 in cash. However, he was uninjured in the incident,” Brickfields deputy police chief Superintendent Arifai Tarawe said in a statement, today.

He said police from the Petaling police station headed to the scene after being alerted to the robbery, and discovered a Honda Wave motorcycle in the area, which is believed to have been abandoned by the suspect.

Although a check on the motorcycle’s license plate number revealed it to be false, the vehicle’s original registration number has been determined, Arifai said.

“The incident was also captured by a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera at the scene and we are examining the footage,” he added.
