Cyberjaya shootout: The four men were 'Sree Geng' members, says police chief

CYBERJAYA: The four armed men who were killed in the shootout in Cyberjaya this morning were members of ‘Sree Geng’, which believed to have been involved in 21 robbery cases in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

In the 9.30am incident, the four suspects aged between 29 and 45 were killed following an exchange of fire with the police team at Sky Park condominium in Cyberjaya.

Selangor police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaluddin said members of the police team were forced to return fire when one of the suspects shot thrice in the direction of the police, before the police personnel responded by shooting back at the suspects.

The four suspects were believed to have gone into hiding at the condominium after robbing a family at their home in Taman Segar Perdana, Cheras at 6am.

Noor Azam said police had identified three out of the four suspects, whereas the identity of the fourth suspect could not be ascertained as there was no identity document found on his body.

He said the police are also continuing their investigation to ascertain as to whether there are any remaining members of the gang still at large.

Noor Azam added that among those killed was the gang leader known as Sree, who had 20 previous criminal records for theft, gang robbery and drugs, among others, over the years.

“Investigations also revealed that the gang would conduct their robbery early in the morning, armed with machetes, and would herd the victims into a room before fleeing with the valuables," he said.

Noor Azam said between January and now, they had received 72 robbery reports using the same modus operandi, believed to be utilised by several robbery gangs, especially in the Klang Valley.
