SPM candidate among 4 nabbed for robbery, kidnap attempt in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM: Four individuals, including a 17-year-old boy, were arrested for attempting to rob and kidnap an Indian national at Taman Sri Muda here on Nov 14, police said.

Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Baharudin Mat Taib said the incident happened about 7am, when the 23-year-old victim and his friend were walking to work at a nearby restaurant when a group of men in a Proton Saga FLX approached them.

“One of the suspects pulled the victim into the car but the victim's friend managed to escape and alerted a co-worker about the incident.

“A police report was lodged and the co-worker's swift action helped (the police) tracked down the suspects within a short period of time,” he said today.

Baharudin said during the investigation, police managed to locate the suspect's car near the scene.

As the police unit approached the vehicle to conduct further check, the driver sped off and in his haste, almost hit a policeman.

He said the police unit then fired three shots at the car. One of them hit the rear tyre of the vehicle causing it to skid into a drain.

The policemen then rescued the victim who was still in the car and detained the suspects.

Checks showed the suspects did not know the victim and that the attempted kidnapping was done at random with robbery as the motive.

"The teenager nabbed is still in school and currently sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations." he said.

Baharudin added that all the suspects have been remanded for further investigation. -- Bernama
