3 men slapped with RM1,000 compound for violating MCO, ignoring warnings

GEORGE TOWN: Three men were given compound notices of RM1,000 each for violating the Movement Control Order (MCO) last Friday.

This came after they ignored repeated warnings not to gather for a chat in front of a house in Pinang Tunggal near Tasek Gelugor.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said prior to being issued with the compound, the men, aged 50, 53 and 72, were warned three times by the police not to gather.

“On the fourth day, police went on their rounds and found the men gathering and chatting under a tree.

“They were brought to the district police headquarters by the Ops Covid-19 task force team where they were issued with the compound for violating the MCO and refusing to adhere to repeated warnings," he said today.

A copy of the compound has found its way into social media.

Noorzainy advised everyone not to misunderstand police action.

“Stern action has to be taken if people continue to be defiant,” he added.

In a separate development, Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissiner Soffian Santong warned that more road blocks will be mounted in areas with huge volume of vehicles and stricter checks would be carried out.

“They better have solid reasons if found out of their homes," he said.

Soffian said while such action might result in traffic congestion, police had no other choice as there had been an increase in the volume of vehicles in recent days.
