Reports lodged against Tony Pua, Chin Tong for remarks on Guan Eng case

GEORGE TOWN: Police reports have been lodged against two DAP leaders for alleged contempt of court over their comments on secretary-general Lim Guan Eng's corruption charges involving the Penang Undersea Tunnel project.

Non-governmental organisation (NGO) Gagasan Pulau Pinang said two separate reports were lodged against Damansara Member of Parliament Tony Pua and former Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong on their alleged sub judice comments on the case.

NGO member Ainul Adzellie Hasnul lodged both reports at the Northeast District Police headquarters last night and called for an investigation to be carried out.

The report against Pua is based on his remarks, quoted by an online news portal, that the key witness in the case, Datuk Zarul Zulkifli, is "unreliable".

He was quoted as saying such in an article titled "Consortium Zenith boss not a reliable witness in Guan Eng's case".

Meanwhile, the report against Liew followed his commentary titled "Charge against Guan Eng to counteract Najib's conviction", which was also published by an online news portal.

Ainul also claimed that the statements had discredited the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) credibility and integrity.

Northeast District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong confirmed that both the reports had been lodged.

Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng is facing two corruption charges involving the controversial RM6.3 billion Undersea Tunnel project.
