Johor Baru Selatan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the 44-year-old victim was found lying on the floor.

He said initial investigation found that the victim was believed to have been beaten by his 35-year-old wife, which then led to his death.

"The victim's son who was in the house at the time is the main witness.

"Police are still investigating the motive of the incident and whether the suspect used a weapon.

"The suspect was detained to assist in the investigation and police have also applied for a remand order," he said.

Meanwhile, a neighbour who only wanted to be known as Seri, 25, said for the past two months she heard noises from the victim's flat unit but was not sure whether the family was facing any problems.

"Maybe they had a misunderstanding... I heard sounds like doors being slammed shut, chairs being dragged and so on.

"However, we did not expect it to end in tragedy. Some neighbours informed that the victim's legs were tied, and he had bruises on his body."
