MACC arrests official of statutory body for asking RM22,000 bribe

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested an official of a statutory body under a ministry today for allegedly asking for a bribe amounting to RM22,000.

The 33-year-old suspect who previously worked in a district in Sabah was arrested at the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu, at 12.30pm.

According to sources, the suspect is believed to have asked for a bribe amounting to RM22,000 from a company owner as an inducement for the company to be given work related to land clearing.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

He said the suspect would be charged at the Special Corruption Court here soon.

"The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009," he said.
