Seven plead guilty to mischief charge for damaging, flipping over car in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Seven men, including four p-hailing riders, pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court here to a charge of causing mischief by damaging and flipping over a car on Thursday.

Muhammad Adam Abd Rahim, 18; Mohamad Hairul Hasraf Seeni Abdul Cader, 22; Morrisson Malvin Anak Mada, 19; Shaikh Al Amin Idrus, 21; Nur Khairul Amal Abdul Harsir, 19; Daniel Haziq Syikhanna, 21; and, Romie Rahimi, 41, made the guilty plea after the charge was read in front of magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin.

The men were accused of causing mischief by damaging the windows and doors and flipping over a blue Perodua Myvi belonging to Tan Jing Hui, 21.

The offence was committed by damaging the car through punching, kicking, bashing with helmets, throwing stones, as well as flipping over the vehicle as a group, causing damage of up to RM15,000.

They were accused of committing the offence at a Petronas petrol station in Jalan Nenas, Taman Kota Masai, about 9.40pm on Thursday.

They were charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail sentence of five years or a fine or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Aqillah Ahmad Rofaie informed the court that the offence was non-bailable, but proposed a bail of RM10,000 each if the court wanted to use its discretion to allow bail.

All the accused, who were unrepresented, asked for bail to be reduced as each of them were earning only between RM1,200 and RM1,500 a month.

The court set bail at RM7,000 each with one surety with the additional condition that they do not disturb the witnesses and victim and they report to the nearest police station once a month until the case is resolved.

Hidayatul Syuhada set Dec 18 for the mention of the case for the submission of the case facts and sentencing.
