MACC denies bribery, power abuse allegations involving two senior officers

KUANTAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied allegations that two of its senior officers are the masterminds behind corruption and power abuse cases involving corporate companies.

MACC, in a statement, said both officers had been called to provide an explanation and they had lodged a report to refute the allegations.

"MACC is confident that the allegations made in a blog under a fake identity are wild and irresponsible. These accusations against the officers are intended to create a negative perception of the commission.

"However, if there is evidence, the relevant parties should lodge a report with enforcement authorities and not make accusations on social media while hiding behind a fake identity," it said.

MACC said it did not open investigation papers without evidence and facts, and each probe was conducted according to the standard operating procedures based on the law and monitored by five independent bodies.

"According to the principle of separation of powers, the Attorney-General's Chambers is part of the checks-and-balances mechanism to ensure that only cases supported by strong evidence and facts are authorised for prosecution at its discretion.

"MACC will also not give in to pressure from any party attempting to divert attention away from ongoing investigations into corruption and embezzlement cases by making false accusations."
