'Op Power Cut' joint operation with TNB sees cops shut down illegal gaming in Iskandar Puteri

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police, in a joint-operation with Tenaga Nasional Bhd today, terminated electricity supply to 11 shoplots which were allegedly used for illegal gaming activities today.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin said the operation, codenamed "Op Power Cut", was one of the many actions taken under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

He said the operation, conducted based on surveillance and past raids, was aimed at ensuring the people who ran such illegal operations would not be able to resume their activities at the premises again.

Between Jan 1 and Sept 27 this year, district Criminal Investigation Department policemen conducted 92 raids on premises which were believed to have been used for illegal gaming, he said.

Rahmat said, during the raids, 94 people were arrested, with power supply to 18 premises being disconnected.

Police also seized RM11,375, he said.

Meanwhile, under Op Dadu Khas, an operation against illegal gaming online and unlicensed 4-digit betting centres, police raided 50 premises that resulted in 73 arrests, and RM16,582 seized from alleged syndicate members operating within the Iskandar Puteri district police's jurisdiction.
