Thai man nabbed with RM132,000 worth of Yaba pills

TUMPAT: Police have arrested a Thai man and seized 12,000 methamphetamine pills worth about RM132,000 last night.

Acting district police chief, Superintendent Ibrahim Husin said the suspect was detained in an operation at Kuala Jambu here.

He said a police team was conducting its 'Ops Tapis Khas' when they spotted the suspect at about 7.30pm.

"The suspect was sitting in a hut near the Kuala Tat jetty at that time. After checking him, police found 60 packets containing 12,000 pills.

"The pills weighing about 1200g are worth about RM132,000," he said in a statement.

Ibrahim said the suspect also tested positive for drugs.

He said police believed the pills or locally known as Yaba pills, have been smuggled in from the neighbouring country.

"The man has been remanded for seven days beginning today to assist police investigation into the case.

"The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Drugs Dangerous Act 1952," he said.
