Heavy police presence at court as senior cop faces murder charge

IPOH: There is a heavy police presence outside the courts here this morning as a senior police officer is expected to face a murder charge over the death of a teenager.

Media personnel have gathered at the court complex as early as 7.30am, waiting for his arrival.

The victim's uncle Abdul Razak Judin, 48; Mohd Nizam Abdullah, 43 and Ahmad Faizal Jaafar, 47 arrived at the court compound at around 8am. Some curious onlookers slowed down their vehicles but did not stop.

Abdul Razak when met outside the court, said the victim's family has slowly accepted the death of their son, Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie.

"Whatever it is, we have to accept this as fate," he said briefly.

Yesterday, Attorney General Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh, in a statement, said the suspect would be charged in the Magistrates Court under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Ahmad Terrirudin said that after studying the outcome of the investigation and the statements contained in the investigation papers, the Attorney General's Chambers found sufficient material for a charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

On Friday, in the 12.30pm incident, Muhammad Zaharif was on his way home at Taman Chepor Sentosa from his school, SMK Jati in Meru, here.

It is understood that before the incident, there was an altercation involving the car driver and the victim who was making noise on his motorcycle.

The car driver chased the victim for almost a kilometre before hitting him from behind. Due to the impact, the victim fell and was dragged almost five metres.

The victim, who was still fully dressed in a school sports uniform, was confirmed dead at the scene.

Following this, on the same day, police arrested the senior police officer who allegedly rammed into the victim with his car, resulting in his death.
