International school in Ipoh evacuated after bomb threat received

IPOH: Besides Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Penang, an international school here has also received a bomb threat via email this morning.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that police were informed of the incident by the school management at about 10.10am today.

Mohd Yusri said that the threat was sent via email from an unknown individual saying that there was a bomb in the school building.

"Police, assisted by the Bomb Disposal Unit from the Perak police headquarters immediately rushed to the scene and after checking the whole school building, no suspicious object was found.

"All students and school staff were allowed to re-enter the building at about 1.15pm after the situation was confirmed safe," he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Earlier, it was reported that multiple international schools in the Klang Valley reported bomb threats this morning.

Two schools in Penang also received bomb threats.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said that police have received reports from seven international schools, with two each in Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam, and one each in Kajang, Subang Jaya, and Kuala Langat.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid mentioned that two international schools in Wangsa Maju also received bomb threats, and police are actively investigating the situation.
