Police intercept illegal drug syndicate utilising airline boarding pass to conceal operations

PETALING JAYA: Police have managed to intercept an illegal drug syndicate using a boarding pass belonging to a well-known airline for packaging to mask their operations.

Newly-minted Petaling Jaya Police District Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar@Ismail said that police have arrested a 26 year-old man in a studio apartment at Sungai Way here last Friday around 10.40pm.

"And at the same time, we also found a new modus operandi where if you look there, this package is formed like a boarding pass, resembling a famous airline's boarding pass, during the raid they were still in the process of filling these drugs into the package that had been placed," he said at the district's headquarters.

Shahrulnizam said that the total of illegal substances that has been confiscated by the police including ecstasy powder (5 kg), ecstasy pills (405 g), ketamine (73 g), and erimin 5 pills (80 g), worth RM406,309.

He also said the syndicate processed the drugs by blending the substances using a coffee machine before inserting the mix into "superheroes" including Superman and Captain America packages.

"These drugs are believed to be meant for Klang Valley market, especially nightclubs," he said.

Shahrulnizam said that the suspect was remanded for six days from Feb 24 until Feb 29 and investigation papers opened and case under investigation under Section 39B Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) ADB 1952.

"Penalty for offence under Section 39B (1)(a) of the same Act and if found guilty, the sentence shall be death by hanging or imprisonment for life and not less than 15 strokes if not sentenced to death.

"Penalty for offense under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act and if found guilty, fine not exceeding RM 5000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both, and supervision for a period not less than two years and not more than three years (Section 38B)," he added.
