Former Merbok MP's ex-aide fined RM45,000 for submitting false claims

ALOR STAR: An ex-aide to a former Merbok member of parliament has been fined RM45,000 for submitting false claims for repair work for run-down houses four years ago.

Sessions Court judge Priscilla Hemamalini Nadarajan meted out the sentence to Mohamad Khalid Abdul Hamid, 46, after the latter pleaded guilty to all three charges.

According to the charge sheet, the accused submitted false claims totalling RM29,500 through three documents.

The accused committed the offences at the Merbok parliamentary service centre in Kuala Muda on Jan 20, 2020.

All three charges were framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code.

The court ordered Khalid to serve an additional five months in jail for each charge if he fails to pay the fine.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy public prosecutors Zahariman Keman, Muhamad Taufik Awaludin and Mohd Yasri Yahya prosecuted.

Khalid has settled the fine.
