Negri Sembilan considers developing maritime hub, improve MVV

SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan State Assembly was informed today that the state government is planning to develop a maritime hub in Tanjung Agas, Port Dickson.

Chairman of the state Industrialisation, Entrepreneurship, Education and Human Capital Committee Dr Mohamad Rafie Ab Malek said the plans were part of the efforts to improve the Malaysian Vision Valley (MVV) to ensure more comprehensive development including in the rural and industrial areas.

“In order to give new breath to the MVV, we must look at what industries or strategic business can be developed here, we need economic catalysts to boost the economy in the MVV.

“In the southern part of Negri Sembilan which borders with Melaka, we are looking at how we can develop a maritime hub like in Linggi, Melaka where there is already development, while Tanjung Agas, Port Dickson is still far behind.

“So we have to look at how we can boost the economy in the area by developing the maritime hub and related industries which can be created there for ship-to-ship services,” he said.

Mohamad Rafie was replying a question from Ng Chin Tsai (PH - DAP-Temiang) who asked about the latest status of the MVV project and its costs at the second meeting of the first term of the 14th State Legislative Assembly here today.

Commenting further , Mohamad Rafie who is also Ampangan state assemblyman said the Negri Sembilan government was also planning to develop an aviation hub in Labu as a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centre for commercial aircraft, engines and components.

He added that the development of the MVV did not involve any expenditure from the state government while the expense for public infrastructure, such as roads and water supply would depend on the development allocation from the federal government. - Bernama
