Woman killed, six injured, in 2-vehicle collision near Besut

BESUT: A 53-year-old woman died and four others were injured when the Perodua Viva they were travelling in collided with a Perodua Alza near Kampung Apal here, on Sunday night.

Two people in the Peroduo Alza were also injured.

Romlah Yusoff, the wife of a Corporal at the Pasir Mas police station in Kelantan, died from severe head and body injuries in the 8.10pm incident.

She died while receiving treatment at the Besut Hospital at 9.23pm.

Her husband, Corporal Zulkifli Ab Rahman, 54, their daughters Nurul Asheema, 12 and Nurul Asheera, 13 and the Perodua Viva's driver Azura @ Ghafidah Ali, 49, are being treated at the same hospital for their injuries.

It is learnt that Zulkifli broke his left leg, both his daughters suffered head injuries, while Azura injured her left arm and leg.

According to district police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi, the family and Azura were heading towards Kota Baru from Kuala Terengganu when their car collided with a Perodua Alza coming from the opposite direction.

He said the 22-year-old Perodua Alza driver, from Kampung Balik Bukit, Jertih, and his 21-year-old friend suffered minor injuries.

Zamri said the Perodua Alza driver is believed to have lost control of his vehicle, which skidded into the opposite lane, before colliding head-on with the Perodua Viva.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
