2, including toddler, killed in Sri Aman car-lorry collision

SRI AMAN: A trip to their hometown ended in tragedy for a family of five when the car they were travelling in rear-ended a lorry at Km52 of Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching here, early today.

Two in the family – the mother and one of the children – were killed, as they were heading to Sarikei in the 2am accident.

Jamiyah Morni, 32, and her daughter, Juma Atu Khodijah, three, succumbed to severe head and body injuries and died on the spot.

Jamiyah, who was the front seat passenger, was trapped inside the wrecked Proton Wira and had to be extricated by rescuers.

Her daughter was one of the three rear seat passengers.

The remaining family members, including the driver of the Proton Wira, survived with minor injuries. They were rushed to the Sri Aman Hospital here for treatment.

A State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said nine men in one engine were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 2.18am.

Rescuers took about an hour to extricate Jamiyah from the vehicle.
