Cops nab cannabis pusher in Alor Star residential area

ALOR STAR: A 47-year-old contractor was arrested after 1.6kg of cannabis was discovered in his car at Taman Gemilang here.

The man was spotted in the car – which was parked at the residential area’s guard post at about 6.30pm on May 11 – and raised the suspicions of the Kubang Pasu district’s Narcotic Investigation Department team.

They inspected the Proton Perdana and found the cannabis in a compartment near the handbrake next to the front passenger’s seat.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said the arrest was made under ‘Ops Tapis’ and that the drugs are worth about RM2,500.

"The man is believed to have been selling the drugs for between RM50 and RM100 per pack in the district," he said.

Ismail added that the man, who tested positive for cannabis, has been remanded until May 18 and could face the maximum death penalty under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
