'C-Cycle event can band enthusiasts together'

KUALA LUMPUR: The New Straits Times (NST) C-Cycle Challenge is one way to promote a healthy lifestyle, apart from forging new friendships among cyclists, says National Heart Institute (IJN) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub.

Despite his busy schedule as a CEO and also a senior consultant cardiac surgeon, Mohd Azhari took time off to participate in the cycling event, and believed that it could help relax the mind and body after a hectic day.

“This event does not only bring everyone together, but also helps to inculcate a healthy lifestyle. It helps to boost the immune system in the body and participants can enjoy the environment outside while cycling along the trails,” he said, adding that he would be participating in the challenge’s 35km fun ride tomorrow.

The cycling enthusiast said he started to cycle in his late 50s, about five years ago, but noted that it was never too late for him.

He said it had become a part of his hobby as it helped balance his busy schedule at work and outdoor activities.

“Although I picked up cycling as my hobby in my 50s, I don’t have any regrets about it. In fact, I enjoy it.

“Each time I go out cycling with my friends, not only it strengthens our friendship, but we also enjoy the views around us. We need to relax sometimes.”
