No Malaysians involved in Madinah-Qassim Highway accident: Foreign Ministry

PUTRAJAYA: No Malaysians were involved in the five-bus collision at Madinah-Qassim Highway on May 26.

However, the Foreign Ministry said it would continue to monitor the situation.

“The ministry confirms that there have been no reports from the Saudi Arabia authorities and respective umrah agents on the involvement of Malaysian citizens in the road accident.

“The ministry through the Malaysian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate General Office in Jeddah will continue to monitor the development of the investigation by the Saudi Arabia authorities particularly the involvement of Malaysians in the incident,” it said in a statement, today.

The ministry said leading Saudi Arabian newspaper Saudi Gazette had reported that six people were killed, while 81 others were injured in the road accident involving five buses.

It was reported that the buses were returning to the Eastern Province, Riyadh, and to United Arab Emirates.

It is believed that the deceased include Bangladeshis, Indians and other nationalities.
