Probe into Sivarasa's speech in mosque incident, completed; action to be decided soon

SHAH ALAM: Investigation into what had transpired at the An-Nur Mosque in Kampung Melayu Subang, which saw Subang MP R. Sivarasa delivering a speech in the prayer hall on May 24, has been completed.

Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Datuk Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa said the four-man panel set up to probe the matter has wrapped up its investigations recently.

"We are now waiting for this matter to be discussed in a kariah committee meeting which will convene before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. Any actions against the mosque's committee will only be carried out after the celebrations, as decreed by Tuanku (Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah)," said Adzib today.

The nazir of the mosque, Adzib added, has not been served with a show cause letter over the incident yet.

Adzib said this when met at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah mosque earlier today.

Sivarasa incurred the wrath of Sultan Sharafuddin for giving a speech during a ceremony where RM71,000 worth contributions were presented to mosques and suraus.

The ceremony was organised by the Kota Damansara constituency coordinator office.

Sultan Sharafuddin, who had repeatedly reminded the people that mosques and surau should not be used as political platforms, expressed his displeasure over the matter, stating that Sivarasa had "crossed the line".

On Wednesday, Sivarasa apologised to Sultan Sharafuddin in a private letter for the mistake.
