Police detain 5 youths in connection to assault on two teenagers

GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested five youths involved in assaulting of two teenagers at Jalan Kaki Bukit here on Saturday.

In the 2.21am incident, T. Nhaveen, 18,and his friend T. Previin, 19, were buying burgers when they met two youths.

The victims and the youths then started teasing each other before the victims told the duo not to disturb them.

The youths then called their friends to the scene and started beating the victims with helmets and hands.

Previin managed to escape during the beating. The attackers then took Nhaveen to a field nearby, where he was further beaten.

Northeast police chief Superintendent Anuar Omar said the teenagers aged 16 to 18, had admitted to the assault.

He said all the five youths tested negative for drugs.

He said they had been remanded for four days from Saturday to facilitate investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code.

Anuar said there was no any closed-circuit television camera at the scene of the incident.

“Nhaveen is being treated at the hospital and has yet to regain consciousness. He has a record for having a brain tumour.

“Checks by medical specialist there are wounds to his anus, similar to injuries from inserting a sharp object.

“There are also traces of burn marks on the back of his body, “ he said, adding that Previin, who suffered minor injuries to his face, had been discharged.
