TUMPAT: A newborn baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached was found abandoned in a suitcase in front of a shop near Taman Seri Kota, Pasir Pekan here yesterday.
The baby girl was found by a health inspector in front a shop near the Pasir Pekan 1Malaysia Clinic at about 8am.
"The baby was heard crying by a 25-year-old man who lives near the building. The man was preparing to go to work," Tumpat district police chief Supt Zaharudin Rasip said.
The man informed his sister about the discovery before a police report was lodged.
The baby was then sent to the 1Malaysia clinic before being transferred to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II) Hospital in Kota Baru.
She is reportedly in stable condition. -- BERNAMA
