Sada preps to address dry tap issue in Kedah this Raya, set to distribute 2.2mil litres of water a day

ALOR STAR: Kedah water utility company Syarikat Air Darulaman Sdn Bhd (Sada) will distribute more than a million gallons of water daily to areas prone water supply disruption this Aidilfitri holiday.

It chief executive officer Datuk Abd Ghani @ Zulkifli Zainuddin said the amount would double the volume distributed by Sada in the same period last year.

“Last year we distributed 1.1 million litres per day to 226 hotspots in the state.

“This year the number of locations that we identified has increased to 257, thus the amount of water to be distributed will also increase,” he told reporters after a briefing session on Sada’s contingency plan to face the water supply disruption, which was also attended by Kedah state secretary Datuk Bakar Din.

Ghani said the amount of water to be distributed could reach to 2.2 million litres per day.

Last week, Ghani was reported as saying that Sada would use 127 tankers to deploy water to the affected locations during the one-week holiday period, compared to just 98 tankers last year.

Meanwhile, Bakar said Sada is holding a briefing with Pas, PKR and DAP assemblymen on the contingency plan during the Aidilfitri festive season soon.

“Sada needs to explain to them the plan so that they will understand what the state is doing to overcome the water supply problem that occurs in their respective constituency,” he said.
