Reckless act leads to fatal Axia-MyVi crash

JOHOR BARU: Two people were killed when a Perodua Axia car collided head-on with a Perodua MyVi at Km53.2 of Jalan Johor Baru-Batu Pahat near the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) branch in Pontian today.

In the 3.11pm incident, the driver of the MyVi, Goh Jia Chien, 17, was killed instantly due to severe head injuries.

The passenger in the other car, Nur Fazira Yusof, 28, succumbed to injuries, four hours later at 7.21pm as she was being treated at the Pontian hospital.

Pontian district police chief Superintendent Zakaria Abd Rahman said initial investigations revealed the driver of the Myvi had overtaken a vehicle in front of him ignoring the double lines along that particular stretch of the road, which led to a head-on collision with the oncoming Axia.

"The Myvi driver died on the spot while the 24-year-old Axia driver and his 28-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and were sent to the Pontian Hospital,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
