Ex-soldier, factory worker killed in separate crashes with lorries

KLUANG: A 40-year-old former soldier was killed when his Proton Perdana crashed into the rear of a lorry at KM53.8 of the North-South Expressway near here today.

District police chief Assistant Commisioner Mohamad Laham said in the 7.45am incident, Zulkarnain Masood, who was driving from Taman Seri Impian, Kluang was killed on the spot.

Initial investigation showed the car had rammed straight into the back of the lorry causing both vehicles to swerve to the right side of the road.

"The impact damaged half of the car's body with the victim pinned inside," he said.

Firemen were called in to extricate Zulkarnain's body before it was taken to the Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for post mortem.

Mohamad added that the impact of the crash also sent one of the lorry's spare tyres to came off and hit a Perodua Viva, driven by a 24-year old woman.

"She was unhurt but was clearly in shock following the incident," he said.

In a separate case, a factory worker was killed in an accident with a trailer at the Pasir Gudang highway at 7.50am today.

Rizuan Suman, 20, who was returning home to Masai from the night shift was said to have lost control of his motorcycle and ended up under the moving trailer.

Seri Alam police chief Superintendent Jokhiri Abd Aziz said the victim was riding between a car and the trailer and believed to be trying to overtake both vehicles.

His remains was sent to Sultan Ismail Hospital for post mortem.
