Police constable dies after being mowed down by car in Kuala Selangor

KUALA SELANGOR: A 27-year-old probationary constable was killed when a car crashed into his motorcycle and ploughed into two pedestrians along Jalan Klang - Teluk Intan, near Taman Murni, today.

Mohamad Azreen Anuar, who had been with the force for two years and was attached to the Kuala Selangor police station, died on the spot in the midnight accident.

Kuala Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ruslan Abdullah said the driver of a Honda Civic, a 34-year-old from Sekinchan, and Azreen were travelling in the direction of Teluk Intan when the accident happened.

"Preliminary investigations showed that the driver, who was coming from Klang, could have lost control of his car and crashed into Azreen. The car then veered towards two pedestrians, aged 19 and 37, who were walking on a pavement, before coming to a halt after hitting a tree.

"Azreen suffered severe head injuries and died instantly. One pedestrian suffered leg injuries while the other escaped unhurt. The driver left the accident scene and did not lodge a police report after the collision.

“We conducted checks and managed to track him down this afternoon. A urine check was carried out and he tested positive for drugs.

"He has been arrested under Section 44 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. We will apply for a remand order against him tomorrow," said Ruslan.
