Izzathy dies beside her pinned husband

KUALA SELANGOR: A woman died while her husband suffered severe injuries after their car collided with a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) in an accident near Taman Mulia, Assam Jawa, yesterday.

The victim, Nur Izzathy Ashikin Ibrahim, 32, was confirmed dead at the scene, while her husband, Tarmizzi Rumandud, 37, was trapped in the driver's seat.

Meanwhile, the two occupants of the Toyota Estima MPV were identified as Mohd Saiful Shahrir Mohd Rosdi, 41, and his five-year-old daughter. Mohd Saiful Shahrir suffered minor injuries, while his daughter was unconscious.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, said they received the call at 9.59am.

He said a team of seven members, along with equipment from the Kuala Selangor Fire and Rescue Station, rushed to the scene.

"According to preliminary reports, the Proton Saga FLX carrying the husband and wife, travelling from Jeram to Kuala Selangor, is believed to have entered the opposite lane and collided with the Toyota Estima.

"The on-duty personnel then proceeded to extricate the trapped victims using specialised equipment and provided initial treatment," he said in a statement yesterday.

Ahmad Mukhlis said that Nur Izzathy Ashikin was confirmed dead by the medical team.

He added that the case has been handed over to the police for further action.
