Hilux driver in seven-vehicle crash near Kepong nabbed

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have apprehended a 36 year-old driver of a pickup truck after an accident involving seven vehicles at Jalan Kuala Selangor near Kepong, here, this morning.

The Toyota Hilux he was believed to be driving was said to have crashed into a lamp post before hitting a Toyota Vios, a Honda BRV, a Honda HRV, a Honda City and two motorcycles; a Suzuki Smash and a Yamaha Legenda in the 7am incident.

Sungai Buloh police chief Superintendent Somu Subramaniam said prior to the incident, the six vehicles, heading towards Kepong, were waiting at a traffic light junction near The Store supermarket.

"The Hilux, coming from the opposite direction, was said to have skidded and slammed into a lamp post before crashing into the vehicles waiting at the traffic light junction.

"Out of the 11 people involved in the crash, only four including the Hilux driver sustained light injuries," Somu said.

He said all the injured motorists have been taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.

Somu said the crash caused a massive congestion but traffic returned to normal at 8.20am once the pile of vehicle were removed from the scene.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 42(1) Road Transport Act 1987 for for reckless and dangerous driving.
